Sports
We always try to enable our students to take part and compete in as many sporting activities as possible. Here in Scoil Mhichíl Naofa we have a very proud sporting tradition. Each year, our children represent us in many sporting activities including Cross Country, Badminton, Handball, Hurling and Camogie.
Athletics
At the start of the year, children from 3rd-6th class competed in the cross country championships in Thurles Crokes. This was a brilliant day out. The children ran incredibly well on a tough course and really enjoyed the event.
Badminton
We had two teams in the badminton championships earlier in the year in the Watershed in Kilkenny city. Both competed incredibly well with our boys team progressing to the Leinster championship knock outs in the National Arena in Dublin. They even got to meet Irish Olympian Nhat Nguyen at the Irish Badminton Open.
Handball
In February we had children playing handball in O'Loughlin Gaels in Kilkenny city. Our handball players are all very young and have played in Croke park already this year! They all are continuing to take part in Kilkenny handball competitions at present.
Hurling
We are really looking forward to the commencement of the Cumann na mBunscol this year and have been training with the teacher and our games development officer Nathen Culleton. On Friday 6th March, our 2nd and 3rd class children represented us in an u10s blitz in hosted by Urlingford NS. We had a lovely morning at Emerald's GAA club and are looking forward to playing at this blitz again next year.
Camogie
Our girls will once again be representing our school in the Cumann na mBunscol camogie this year. This is always a really enjoyable experience for our students where we collaborate with our neighboring schools to allow our students to represent their school and develop their skills. We will add more updates to our website once the hurling and camogie commences in the next few weeks.
